2022 was a big year for the popularity of Canva – an online application which enables you to be able to create your perfect design in the comfort of your own home, with a cup of tea in hand.
We thought it was time to go over the basics of it to enable you to get your product print ready.
The first stepping stone is to ensure you are creating your document at the correct size. If you are designing something at A6, but then need it at A4, you will lose massively reduce the resolution of your final product, meaning it will be pixelated and blurry.
When creating the document, make sure you leave a bleed on there – this is usually a 3mm area outside of the sheet size you are looking to have printed which allows us to take a final trim to give that professional edge to edge print you are looking for.
The great thing about Canva is you are able to share your document from within the app and add us in to your team to be able to retrieve your artwork. If you would to do this yourself, once the file is complete head to File and Download. Choose the PDF Print option and check the top box which will read ‘Crop marks and bleed’. If you have a Pro plan, we would also recommend changing the Colour Profile from RBG to CMYK.
Your screen uses Red Green and Blue pixels in different combinations to create the colours you see. Printers on the other hand use Cyan. Magenta, Yellow and Black to print – meaning a file exported as RGB and then printed CMYK could show up some differences in the colours you are expecting to see.
If you do not have a Pro account, we can work with RGB files, but it is worth noting that there may be some deviation to the colours upon printing. We will always be more than happy to print a sample off for you to have a look at to make sure you are satisfied with the product you will receive.
